Channel Flicking Pays

I am the living proof. Idly flicking through channels on a Saturday night - hoping to find a really great film that had just started and continued to midnight so that I could get tetchy about not seeing it, and go to bed satisfied that I had spent the day well - I happened to notice some very familiar urban nightscapes. Oh my god, is that - could that be - It is! The opening sequence to the second Taggart* I wrote on ITV3. Yippy day, calloo callay.

Repeat fees! As they're being shown sequentially, that means the 1st one I did was probably shown too. Ha.

Aren't many jobs you can count a good day's work as slumping on the sofa casually pressing a TV remote button.

*Ken Russell's a fan, apparently. Which impresses me more than it probably should.

Thankyou for leaving a comment :) Am in the peculiar position at the moment where blogging can be jutified as work... Very strange, very rewarding and sometimes very noisy.

Great to find your blog. Ken Russell - I'm impressed by anyone who walks off bb...

Been reading through and was hovering on the 'order' button as my final draft demo dribbles away, got to buy something as have to submit 'properly' formatted stuff at the mo - but know that there is so much more out there than fd...Any suggestions?

If you're looking for a long-term tool to invest in and need it now, I'd buy Movie Magic Screenwriter, which currently comes with a free upgrade to the new version 6.0, due out any time now. It's more stable than Final Draft, and the navigating/outline tools seem like they're going to work, which is a damn sight more than you can say for Final infuriating Draft.

If you are more interested in writing than chatting about overpriced and unnecessary software with fellow scribes (an admittedly important pastime), the Script Smart template for MS Word does all the formatting you'll ever need, at the exceptional price of free.

Good luck with the MA.

Attenpt no. 2. Not very good on this Facebook-type thing. I met you a while ago in a pub, Mark. (Through Mick Jackson, if I recall). I wondered if you were interested in speaking to my Screenwriting students at Chichester Uni? If so, please contact me, Dave Swann
